Following a Rashaad Johnson interception in the end zone in the first overtime exchange, John Parker Wilson hooked up with Julio Jones on the first play to get Alabama down to the two-yard line. On second and goal, Wilson scored his second touchdown of the game on a quarterback sneak to give the Tide the victory.

Alabama kicker Leigh Tiffin had a FG blocked in the final seconds of the fourth quarter to force overtime, following a clutch punt return by Javier Arenas with just under two minutes on the clock, setting the Tide up at the Tiger 40 yard line. Alabama pounded the football down to the Tiger 10 yard line, aided by an LSU facemask penalty to set up Tiffin, who had missed an earlier field goal attempt.
